Special Effects assignments built during the courses at Sheridan College in 2025.
A collection of some of the assignments that I completed in the Advanced Special Effects and Prosthetics program at Sheridan College during 2025.
A prop assignment where we were all given a black case then had to choose a movie or television show and create a prop that could be used in the production. I chose the 1965 version of The Time Machine.
Some of the pieces were designed by me and printed in 3D then painted while other parts were sourced from an old typewriter.
For this assignment, we each chose a children's toy and had to convert it into a prop that would be used in a Spy Kid type of movie. The original toy was a tentacled sprinkler that is connected to an outdoor hose.
For this assignment we were to cast our own fingers and then mold them in silicone and paint them to look like realistic severed fingers.
This assignment was to build a sculpting easel out of wood. I took it a step further and made it into an Iron Man easel with a glowing Arc Reactor.
We were to design and build a light saber for a character in the Star Wars franchise. I chose Darth Maul. The primary inspiration was the use of the typewriter key assembly as it mimics the tattoo on his head and also keeping it primarily red and black.
This was a pair of hand puppets I designed and built of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.
Sherlock Holmes puppet turnaround.
This was a 1/5 scale model location of an underground electrical access hallway made of styrofoam, PVC tubing and balsa wood.
This is an animatronic face that I sculpted in clay and then cast in Aqua resin, then painted with acrylics. The eyes move and blink and the mouth moves using a remote control device.
Clay sculpture for tree head.
This was a vampire brow sculpt over another student's life mask.
Vampire brow applied to my own face.
Various wounds - silicone, prosaid, latex and make-up.
Human skull sculpted from styrofoam.
Maquette of a full body creature suit using Super Sculpey. Acrylic paint finish.
We were given a head sculpture of an ape and had to blend it together with an endangered species. It had to be a 40/60 split. I kept the forehead and brows from the Ape and made the rest a Rattlesnake.
Latex mask cast from sculpt and painted using Latex paints.
Helmet modeled using Fusion 360.
Created silicone prosthetics for a classmate to age her: forehead, cheeks and chin.
Before and after makeup application.
3 bottles of beer. 2 are real and 1 is break-away stunt glass. I also designed the labels.
10" Stop-Motion puppet built over poseable armature. Replacement eyes and mouth positions.
Two pieces of rebar. One is real, the other is foam. Painted with acrylic and real rust mixture.
Cast and painted eyes.
Concept design for creature puppet.
Concept rendering.
Maquette of creature.
Creature puppet made using Flex Foam, styrofoam, Haloween skeleton (cannibalized), PVC tubing, acrylic resin, silicone latex, melted plastic dropsheets, 3D printed parts: fingers and palms for animatronics, assorted fabric material, and white glue.
